Boxer Ramen, a popular restaurant chain based in Portland, Oregon, announced it will shut down all its branches today, including two that had just opened.

In a touching message to its customers, the restaurant explained the reasons behind the sudden decision to close.

Boxer Ramen Announces Imminent Closure

On Thursday, Boxer Ramen, a cherished local eatery, notified its patrons that it would cease operations after Sunday, April 28. According to Koin News, the beloved restaurant will no longer serve its famed ramen, potstickers, bento boxes, and other Japanese specialties.

Boxer Ramen has been a staple in the community, with three locations in Portland and a new addition in Beaverton that opened in December 2023. Despite a successful run of 11 years, all sites will close permanently.

The restaurant shared on Instagram, "The incredible challenges that we all faced as a community during the pandemic, compounded by inflated costs of goods and services, have not only profoundly affected our restaurant, but all of us and our communities as a whole."

The company expressed gratitude towards their staff and customers: "Despite the tireless efforts and dedication of our incredible team, and the unwavering support from all of you, our family and friends, it has become impossible to continue operating."

Boxer Ramen is closing its doors due to economic difficulties, as reported by Willamette Week. The parent company, MMMco., cited the ongoing impacts of the pandemic and rising inflation as critical reasons for the closure. In February, MMMco. Sought financial relief by filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In a public statement, the company detailed the harsh realities faced during these challenging times: "The incredible challenges that we all faced as a community during the pandemic, compounded by inflated costs of goods and services, have not only profoundly affected our restaurant but all of us and our communities as a whole. Despite our incredible team's tireless efforts and dedication and unwavering support from all of you, our family, and friends, it has become impossible to continue operating."

Additionally, MMMco has also filed for bankruptcy for another of its ventures, the burger chain SuperDeluxe. However, the bankruptcy filings have not impacted other MMMco brands, such as Kinnamons and Baes Chicken, which continue to operate as usual.

As Boxer Ramen announced the closing of its restaurants, fans expressed their sorrow and confusion on the company's Instagram post, reports The U.S. Sun. Many shared personal memories and their disappointment over the sudden shutdown.

One fan lamented the timing of the closure, saying, "I really wish I could've been around for this! I'm so sad to see it happen." Another expressed a heartfelt connection to the restaurant's offerings: "I literally compare all the ramen I have to your spicy red miso, and have for so long. You will be missed."

The news also sparked questions about the reasons behind the abrupt decision to shut down. A concerned patron asked, "So, just so anybody can clarify did they expand too fast because this seems like a really sudden close."

This reflects a broader uncertainty among the community as they seek explanations for the sudden end of their favorite dining spots.
