Sherlock Season 4 release date confirmed on January 2016 and a special to be shown on December 2015.

According to Hollywood Reporter, Steven Moffat has revealed that the special will be based on the "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle," one of the 56 short stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for his Sherlock Holmes series.

There is no exact date of the Season 4's premiere because of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman's busy schedule. It was reported that they will start filming the TV series starting on January 2015 and it will air on December 2015 but no specific dates yet. Although, it will depend on two actor's commitment as reports were told that they are still in demand to film other films.

Fans can no longer wait until 2016 but there still a feeling of excitement of its longevity.

What to expect on the most anticipated Sherlock Season 4?

Rumors suggest that Moriarty will make a major come back in the upcoming season, but Sherlock's adversary shot himself in the face. Clearly, he's dead and it's impossible for his return.

Another rumor claims that Mrs. Hudson will die in the next season.

In addition, Moffat told Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming season will be darker and devastating.

"We have a plan to top it," he said.

"And I do think our plan is devastating. We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock."

There is also a possibility that the third Holmes will appear in the upcoming season. In an interview in Brazil with Mark Gatiss co- creator of 'Sherlock' joked about Tom joining the cast. "Tom would be wonderful in 'Sherlock. But he only does movies now. What can I say? I'll ask him if you like."

'Sherlock' Season 4 release date will be in two years but definitely it's worth the wait.
