Richie Rich Coming To Netflix On 2015: The Newest Live-Action Reboot!

Oct 31, 2014 09:47 AM EDT | By Staff Reporter

Richie Rich is originally a fictional character in the Harvey Comics universe. He debuted in Little Dot #1, cover-dated September 1953, and was created by Alfred Harvey and Warren Kremer. It also had an 1994 American live-action film adaptation on 1994. Dubbed "the poor little rich boy," Richie is the only child of fantastically wealthy parents and is the world's richest kid.

It's a 21-episode series starring Jake Brennan (Dark Skies), as Richard "Richie" Rich Jr., a self-made kid trillionaire who enjoys the spoils of success after inventing and selling a new green technology.

The movie also stars Joshua Carlon, Jenna Ortega, Lauren Taylor, Kiff VandenHeuvel (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Brooke Wexler.

Aside from Richie, there are also other fictional characters expected to add color to the story such as the Rich family-- Mr. Richard Rich Sr.. Richie's father; an industrialist, Mrs. Regina Rich, Richie's mother, Aunt Noovo Rich, Richie's wealthy but very eccentric aunt who is crazy about posting signs; has a tendency to show off her wealth. She is Mr. Rich's sister, Aunt Mintley, Oft-bewildered aristocrat, Aunt Cleo, the animal lover, Uncle Worry, Richie's uncle, former coach of a professional football team known for its long losing streak, Uncle Stormy, Another of Richie's uncles, whom Richie initially mistakes for an impostor named Blackie Bludsoe in one issue, and Dollar - Rich family dog, a "Dollarmatian" (like a Dalmatian, but with dollar signs instead of spots).

The new Richie Rich has been reconstructed for kids living in today's impulsive economy, a place where they have to show a little hustle before being allowed to live in astounding luxury. Netflix bought the series from AwesomenessTV, a popular YouTube channel and division of DreamWorks Animation known for creating programming that appeals to young people and all the baffling stuff they're into.

The live-action series will be streamed to subscribers in the U.S., Canada, and Latin America sometime in early 2015.
