Chelsea Handler Instagram Posting Of Topless Pic: Aimed At Wanting To Be Controversial Than Being Feminist? Is This A War Between Instagram And Twitter?

Oct 31, 2014 10:56 PM EDT | By Staff Reporter

Comedienne and writer Chelsea Handler's Instagram photo of herself topless on a horse to imitate Russian President Vladimir Putin's topless photo riding a horse was, according to her, only making a statement on gender equality and on a more shallow note, "I have every right to show I have a better body than Putin." But Instagram pulled the photo down saying, her photo violated community guidelines that state, "Accounts found sharing nudity or mature content will be disabled and your access to Instagram may be discontinued."

Chelsea Handler defied and uploaded the photos again arguing, "If a man posts a photo of his nipples, it's ok, but not a woman? Are we in 1825?"

Instagram pulled it down again, reiterating the guidelines. "Remember that our community is a diverse one, and that your posts are visible to people as young as 13 years old. While we respect the artistic integrity of photos and videos, we have to keep our product and the content within it in line with our App Store's rating for nudity and mature content. In other words, please do not post nudity or mature content of any kind."

Ever feisty and wanting to be heard once in a while, Chelsea Handler found the Instagram action as offensive to her right to self expression and too controlling for her that she decided to finally quit the site. She moves to Twitter, which proves to be more permissive in allowing such photos but with the tag, 'sensitive.'

Addressing her fans and followers, she made her farewell Instagram message Friday with, "You can now find my dogs and my breasts on Twitter only where my followers have the right to choose what they say. Bye bye instablock."

Two notes. First, the fight to attain equality with men, which in Chelsea Handler's belief is about exposing her nipples, will go on for eternity. Her principle is shared by Scout Willis, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter, who thought of parading her topless self one time in New York City to speak out her mind and then posted the images in Twitter. But then, not every woman believes gender equality can be convinced that way, by flaunting one's private parts.

Second, the issue appears to be more of which between Twitter and Instagram is more permissive and liberal? Are the two sites the ultimate beneficiary of this gender-equality-via-private-parts-exposure thing? Could be. Their proifile followers could set the line for digital marketers on where to promote their goods.

On a more subtle but 'louder' note, is Chelsea Handler just wanting to get attention that resorting to this kind of gimmick gave her the momentary shot to popularity to sustain her slot in the business?
