The Japan-based tech giant has been known in making top caliber handsets every year. Sony, that is now slowly reaching the top in smartphone market, has recently released its flagship handset for 2014, the Sony Xperia Z3, Tech Radar reported.

Along side the tech advance Z3 smartphone, Sony also unveiled a smaller version of its flagship smartphone, the Z3 compact. Coming from the handset's brand name, it is clearly a compact version of its brother Z3, but aside from the difference in dimension let us see the diversity between these two top devices.

The two phones, released last September, share almost the same design just like the past Xperia smartphones. Both devices have glass black and Omni balance design, the only difference is Z3 has metal edges while the Compact has plastic. Sony's flagship also has white, black, copper and silver green options while Z3 Compact has white, black, orange and green variants. Both Sony gadgets are also certified dust and water resistant.

Size is clearly difference between the two. While both phones are slim, Z3 is slimmer and bigger at the same time with 146 x 72 x 7.3 mm dimension while Z3 Compact has 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6 mm stats. Sony's flagship tablet is also heavier compared to its Compact version at 152 grams versus 129 grams.

Both phones also have relatively big displays, Phone Arena cited. But Sony Xperia Z3 sports a bigger 5.2-inch display while Z3 Compact has 4.6-inch screen. Z3's display is also sharper compared to Compact at 1080x1920 resolution versus 720x1280 pixels. On the other hand, displays of the smartphones are both IPS LCD HD screen with Live Color LED's.

It is also a close fight in terms of the handset's performance as both phones are really high-end. Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact are both powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chip and quad core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.5GHz with Adreno 330 GPU. Z3 becomes better just in terms of RAM at 3GB versus 2GB.

Aside from the display size, dimension, weight, screen resolution and RAM, the last difference of Z3 and Z3 Compact is their power source. Sony's latest flagship phone is superior with its 3100 mAh battery compared to Z3 Compact's 2600 mAh power juicer. Nonetheless, both batteries are non removable Li-Ion.

Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, both feature Android Kitkat 4.4.4 and soon Android Lollipop 5.0, also have the same 16GB internal memory that can be upgraded up to 128GB. The two high end handsets also sport similar high quality cameras, 20.7 MP main camera and 2.2MP selfie snapper. Both smartphone can also shoot 4k video.

In terms of price, Sony Xperia Z3 is expected to be pricier compared to Sony Xperia Z3 Compact.
