32-Year Old Indian Banker Becomes Youngest Partner at Goldman Sachs

Kunal Shah, managing director at Goldman Sachs was promoted to an official Partner of the multinational investment company, making him the youngest Partner to included in the company's highly sought-for club.

Shah, 32, is of Indian origin, and one of the 78 persons to be promoted to the position, and also one of five Indians to successfully make it in Goldman Sachs' class of Partners for 2014, which include 11 women, 23 employees from investment banking, 25 from securities, 11 from investment management, four from merchant banking and three from research.

What's more amazing, Shah was promoted to his former position as managing director at the young age of 27.

Shah was a Mathematics graduate of Cambridge University, and was also included in Forbes' highly coveted "30 under 30" Finance list back in 2011.

He made a name for himself at a young age, and has been one of the top performing workers in Goldman Sachs since he started working at the company in London back in 2004.

Shah started out as an analyst of interest rate products before heaving in the big global macro desk.

Aside from Shah, other persons of Indian-origin promoted to the firm's elite group that represents 1.6 percent of the company's 33,500 workforce include Manikandan Natarajan, Meena Lakdawa Flynn, Umesh Subramanian and Rajesh Venkataramani.

Goldman Sachs Chief Operating Officer Gary Cohn and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein personally called the 78 individuals to inform them of their elevation to the position of Partner, yesterday, Nov. 12.

"These appointments recognise some of the firm's most senior professionals and acknowledge their embodiment of our culture and values, and their leadership of the firm's business and people," Blankfein said in a statement.

"We look forward to their continued strong performance and leadership in the years ahead," he added.

As a Partner, Shah will receive a salary of $900,000 and a part of the bank's bonus pool, exclusively divided among Goldman Sachs' Partners.
