Superbowl 2014 Halftime Show: Katy Perry Confirmed To Perform In The 2014 Superbowl Halftime Show

It's official: Katy Perry will perform at this season's Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL's showpiece event will take place Feb. 1, 2015 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, AZ.

Billboard.com had the inside track on the pop star's big date, but it was made official tonight when Katy shared the announcement with her 60.4 million Twitter followers.

Immediately after the news hit the Web, Pepsi aired its "There Since The First #Halftime" commercial featuring Katy's 2010 hit "Firework."

When Katy plays the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show, she'll join an elite group of pop and rock entertainers that includes Beyoncé, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2 and its most recent guest performer, Bruno Mars.

The halftime show is one of the world's most-watched musical events, and its performers typically enjoy a sudden spike in sales from the exposure.

The NFL, however, doesn't usually pay its Super Bowl artists.

The league has even pitched a "pay to play" suggestion. Just don't expect Katy to play ball with that.

"I'm not the kind of girl who would pay to play the Super Bowl," she said during an October appearance on ESPN's "College Game Day."

A record-setting 111.5 million viewers watched the halftime spectacle in the U.S. last time and many millions more tuned-in to the international broadcast.

A spokesperson for Pepsi says the brand has a "lot of great things in-store" surrounding this year's Super Bowl.

Perry's halftime slot had been rumored since August after the NFL had reportedly shortlisted her along with Coldplay and Rihanna, who saw the use of her song "Run This Town" with Jay Z axed in a segment during the wake of the Ray Rice scandal.

The pop star is currently touring her Prismatic shows in Australia, where she's playing arenas across the country, and apparently trying her best to dodge a cadre of "perverted & disgusting" photographers.

She also found time to catch the Dallas Cowboys - New York Giants Sunday Night Football game, though it seems her band mates are making all the noise.
