Her latest turn as tortured heroine Katniss Everdeen has helped the new Hunger Games movie shoot to the top of the box office.

But now Jennifer Lawrence has found success on another countdown altogether.

The Oscar winner shows off her vocal talents in Mockingjay - Part 1 as she sings a folksy track written by The Lumineers.

And The Hanging Tree - which appears on the movie's official soundtrack - has proved such a hit with fans its raced into the UK music charts.

The song, arranged by John Newton, currently sits at number eight on the UK's midweek iTunes countdown, despite it not being officially released as a single.

Jennifer now finds herself just behind the likes of pop hitmakers Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, Taylor Swift and the new Band Aid single, featuring the likes of One Direction and Rita Ora.

The tune's placing on the charts will prove most of a shock for the actress herself, who broke down in tears before filming her singing scene.

Director Francis Lawrence explained to Radio Times magazine, 'She was horrified to sing. She cried a little bit in the morning before the scene.

She'd probably tell you it was her least favourite day on set. 'She'll probably never really understand it because she's so sensitive about the singing, but she did it and she did it all day and she hated me for making her do it all day but she did and it's great.'

The 24-year-old was so nervous before her performance, she refused to even show off her voice in rehearsals.

The filmmaker continued: 'We had a vocal coach, who sort of shifted the key for Jen's voice.  'Then she started working with Jen once or twice. Jen didn't really want to do too much of the training.
