Instagram: Check Out 5 New Filters With New Instagram Update

Dec 17, 2014 09:13 AM EST | By Staff Reporter

Instagram, the popular photo-editing app, has got a new update ahead of the end of 2014, which brings new photo filters to the app.

According to a blogpost by the company, "Inspired by the photography, art, fashion and design of the global Instagram community, we're releasing five new filters that we believe are our best yet. You'll see the filters at the front of your filter tray: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Aden and Perpetua. They soften and subtly shift colors to achieve the look and feel you want for your each photo."

Instagram has also updated how each filter is displayed in the app.

Now when you apply a filter on a photo, "each filter icon on the bottom now displays a blurred preview of your photo with its effect applied."

We tried out the updated app and the blurred preview does come in each filter. It's actually a tiny indicator of what the filter will look like.

Instagram has also added a new Manage button, which means you can just tap this to arrange filters according to the ones you use the most and keep the ones you don't like at the bottom of the tray. Instagram for iOS version 6.4.0 is available today in Apple's App Store, and Instagram for Android version 6.12.0 is available today on Google Play.

As far as Instagram is concerned, 2014 has been a great year for them. The company announced this year that they have more than 300 million users, sharing over 70 million photos and videos each day. Instagram crossed 200 million users in March and 300 million by the end of this year, proving that the app saw user base grow by a whopping 50 percent in the past few months.

This effectively also meant that Instagram had overtaken Twitter, which has 284 million active users.

Instagram also announced a "verified" badge for celebrities, athletes and brands and said that it would permanently delete spam accounts.

Instagram also launched a new app this year called Hyperlapse app for capturing time-lapse videos using iOS devices. Hyperlapse videos can be saved on mobile devices and shared on Instagram.
