CM Punk MMA Signing Criticized But Former WWE Star Gets Defender In UFC Pres. Dana White

CM Punk is not the first wrestler to take his talents to professional mixed martial arts fighting. Brock Lesnar has done it before and he succeed. CM Punk said that he wanted to do MMA because it is something he always wanted to do. But of course, this move of his will not come without any criticisms. While people are waiting for CM Punk to prove if MMA is his place on his first fight in 2015, UFC president Dana White has some words for his critics.

"Some people love it, some people hate it," White told UFC.com. "The people who are opposed to it and bitching about it, I get it. Every fight that we do isn't going to be everybody's thing, but there will be people who want to watch him and those that don't.

White also indicated that CM Punk thought about MMA transition, specifically UFC, because he wants to continue to fight at a higher level despite his age.

"He and I have become friends," White added, "And he told me, 'I've achieved some cool things in my life and I want to try the UFC. It's not like I'm young enough to fight my way up in the smaller leagues. I'd like to come in and give it a shot and see what I got."

One of those who had a negative reaction on CM Punk's MMA transition is Ben Askren. He said that "you can't really expect that a 36-year-old man who's got no combat sports experience is going to come into the UFC and be effective," Askren said, via Nate Wilcox of Bloody Elbow. "I mean it's simply to sell pay per views."

Dana White hits out at Askren for these comments.

"The thing is with Ben Askren is that Ben Askren doesn't really want to fight here, in my opinion," White said in response. "People that are close to him say the same thing. The guy is making a ton of money to fight nobodies, but when you talk and you say a lot of things it keeps your name out there. Trust me when I tell you this, Ben Askren does not want to fight in the UFC. Believe me when I tell you that."
