Google Working On New Version Of Android Operating System

Dec 30, 2014 03:19 PM EST | By Staff Reporter

Android is one the most popular mobile operating system. Currently, more than 83 percent of the market occupied by the operating system, Android. Google is now working on a new version of their operating system, which can be used for cars, News agency Reuters said in a report.

The new version of the Android operating system can be used in cars, where the driver of the cars can get all the benefits of the Internet and they do not have to connect smartphones with a separate plug-in.

Technology analysts say, the move is a major step up from Google's current Android Auto software, which comes with the latest version of its smartphone operating system and requires a phone to be plugged into a compatible car with a built-in screen to access streaming music, maps and other apps. The first such vehicles will debut in 2015.

The report, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, indicates that Google is thinking of a major shift in how its Android Auto software interfaces with cars. As The Verge notes, Android Auto, enabled by Android 5.0 Lollipop, is a software layer that runs on top of existing in-car platforms from car makers. Users need to have a phone connected to a car with a built-in screen to access their phone's content, maps and applications, which are projected onto the screen. That's similar to how Apple's CarPlay functions.

Reuters reported that Google is hoping to bring Android M, the follow up to Lollipop, straight into your car's dashboard. The difference from something like Android Auto, however, is that Android M won't simply be an add-on, giving owners that fresh-out-of-box-Android smell. Though, Google has not officially informed anything about the matter.
