Mia Love Slandered on Wikipedia, CNN Anchorwoman Thrown Nuts At RNC

Aug 30, 2012 01:44 PM EDT | By Staff Reporter

Mia Love, a rising Republican star who spoke at the Republican National Convention, became the target of unknown perpetrators who vandalized her Wikipedia page overnight and left racist and sexist remarks.

The attack comes as Democrats and liberal media outlets criticize or downplay the GOP's effort at showcasing diversity at their convention in Tampa.

Wikipedia vandals were hard at work updating her entry with disgusting slurs like "dirty, worthless whore." The page called her a "total sell-out to the Right Wing Hate machine and the greedy bigots who control the GOP." Another section again called her a "sell-out" to the "right wing hate machine," before accusing her of being exploited "like the House N----- she truly is."

The Wikipedia page changes came as the party's other non-white stars in Tampa were either criticized or played down this week.

Mia Love is the African American and Mormon Mayor of Saratoga Springs, Utah. She is slated to become the first black woman Republican elected to Congress if she can beat Utah Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson.

Love gave a speech last night at the RNC which got many buzzing about it online. Her speech focused on the American Dream attained by her parents, who emigrated from Haiti with "ten dollars in their pocket."

"President Obama's version of America is a divided one - pitting us against each other based on our income level, gender, and social status. His policies have failed! We are not better off than we were 4 years ago, and no rhetoric, bumper sticker, or campaign ad can change that," she said.

"Mr. President I am here to tell you we are not buying what you are selling in 2012," Love added.

Meanwhile, an African American CNN camerawoman who was attending the Republican National Convention was assaulted yesterday by two men who threw peanuts at her and yelled loudly, "This is how we feed animals". He was promptly escorted out.
The first account of the incident, unsurprisingly, came via Twitter in the form of a tweet from former MSNBC and Current anchor David Shuster: "GOP attendee ejected for throwing nuts at African American CNN camera woman + saying 'This is how we feed animals.'"

The convention condemned the incident in a statement, saying, "Two attendees tonight exhibited deplorable behavior. Their conduct was inexcusable and unacceptable. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated."

"A recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that 94 percent of African Americans surveyed supported President Obama, versus 0 percent - yes, zero percent - who supported Mitt Romney," according to Politico.
