Project Morpheus Games: ‘Gnog’ Coming To Sony’s VR Headset, PS4 In 2016! [Video] Indie Puzzle Game Lets Players Explore Worlds Inside Monster Heads

Virtual reality has mostly been used to simulate an experience and games for VR headsets such as Sony's Project Morpheus do such a thing. When asked to develop one, however, indie studio KO-OP came up with "Gnog," a virtual reality game which was different from what we're used to.

Pocket-lint pointed out that "Gnog" is one of the first Project Morpheus games announced by Sony, citing it as "a puzzle game that looks bright and colorful and seems to be about a universe made up of monster heads."

"GNOG is a (we like to think) special kind of puzzle-adventure game with a focus on discovery and wonder in a universe made up of monster heads," KO-OP's Saleem Dabbous said via a blog post. "Each monster has its own personality, and a micro-world on its opposite side - you'll flip back and forth between these two sides, interacting with both and watching how they react."

Dabbous points to games such as "Windosill" and "Fez" as inspiration describing them as "great little sandboxes for exploration and wonder." The KO-OP studio director also mentioned toys such as Mighty Max and Polly Pocket "which encourage you to look at everyday objects a little differently."

"Sony has a solid history of courting talented indie developers for games, and - based on 'Gnog' - it looks like that will extend to Morpheus as well," The Verge said. The website previewed Sony's VR headset at GDC 2015 and says the Japanese tech company may "finally [be] ready to reveal some of the experiences that will help differentiate it from competitors like the Oculus Rift."

Although it was announced for Project Morpheus, "Gnog" doesn't require the VR headset to work. The indie puzzle game will also work for the PS4 game console.

"Gnog" will be among the first Project Morpheus games available when both are launched sometime in 2016.
