Owen Wilson Puts On Weight For ‘Zoolander 2’? ‘I Could Play A Doughy Supermodel’

Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson will be reprising their role as Derek and Hansel in the much-awaited comedy "Zoolander 2" on February 12, 2016.

The two actors have been filming their latest movie in Italy and this city is known for its good food. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, the 46-year-old admitted that it was difficult for him to control eating pasta.

"It was a little bit of a challenge because Italian food, it's not exactly gluten free. I did struggle with that early on and Ben was giving me notes about, you know, you're playing a supermodel. But then I decided that maybe I could play this guy as kind of doughy, like a doughy supermodel," Owen Wilson said as reported by Belfast Telegraph.

"They don't always have to be ripped, right? So I went that direction. And I think when you see the movie, I think you'll like that choice. It's more human, it's more inclusive," the father of two sons explained.

In the 2001 film, Owen Wilson played a laid back and sexy male model but that was 14 years ago. It is quite normal for the two actors to gain some weight since the setting of the movie is in the future.

During an interview with Slash Film (via NME), Ben Stiller revealed that "Zoolander 2" will be filmed almost entirely in Europe.

"I don't want to give away too much, but it's basically Derek and Hansel 10 years later, though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime," the 49-year-old director said.

Apart from Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell will also return as Mugatu in the sequel alongside Christine Taylor, Penelope Cruz, Kristen Wiig, Olivia Munn, and Billy Zane. There will also be cameos of famous celebrities including Justin Bieber, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian, Willie Nelson, and Ariana Grande.
