Is Cameron Monaghan's Jerome Valeska The Joker or not? In the comics, fans are adamant about telling the Clown Prince of Crime's origin story.
However, previous "Gotham" season 2 spoilers are hinting Jerome could be the psychopath Batman faced off with many times.
The Fox TV series foreshadowed the Joker in the first season many times and it is Monaghan who comes the closest. For second season, he was given a multi-episode arc but is he really the Joker?
Executive producer Bruno Heller said people will get blown away by Jerome's storyline. However, he neither denies nor confirms whether he is indeed the Joker.
"Jerome is returning for season two - and, without cheating, that strand is very much about... what is the origin of the Joker?" Heller teased when asked for "Gotham" season 2 spoiler about Jerome.
"Is Jerome the Joker? It's too early to tell you that story. [So] it's about the creation of an ideology, the creation of an attitude, the creation of a cult, and Jerome is the key figure in that."
Last month's "Gotham" season 2 spoiler from Ben McKenzie also suggests Jerome could that mad man in thick make up.
"I think for fans of Joker... I think you're going to be very happy," Ben McKenzie, who plays Det. Jim Gordon, said in an interview with IGN last month at the San Diego Comic-Con.
Heller is also positive about what will happen to Jerome in "Gotham" season 2.
"The story we're telling is absolutely the story of how the Joker came to be. More than that I can't tell you because I've not yet formulated a clever J.J. Abrams type of way of telling you the truth but avoiding the spoiler," he revealed.
"It's a storyline that plays out over the whole season," Heller said adding, "and at the end of the season, all Joker fans are going to go, 'Ahh, what a brilliant, brilliant idea,' or... Greek finance minister will be my next job."
"Gotham" season 2 release date is September 21.
