Ray Allen Haven't Really Retired; Former Heat And Celtics Star Insists Retirement Is Not Official

Aug 04, 2015 02:46 PM EDT | By Rolly Gacelo

Ray Allen retired last year. But not really.

The sweet shooting veteran skipped last season after he and the Miami Heat failed against the San Antonio Spurs in the 2014 finals.

Teams tried to court him back in the game but the 2014-15 season has started and everyone just failed to win his YES.

Many NBA fans were disappointed last year when Ray Allen retired. Good news for his fans though, there could be another chance to see him play competitive basketball again.

Jesus Shuttleworth said in an interview with Dom Amore of the Hartford Courant that nothing is really official about his retirement.

"I haven't said anything about that and I won't officially retire," the 40-year old shooting guard said. "Because if something came to the table, contractually and situationally, I want to be able to take a strong look at it. I don't want to be that guy that says he's retiring and then is coming back."

Thoughts that Ray Allen retired at the end of the 2014-15 season were debunked in just a few weeks. He said he is just looking for the right team and since he did not find one, he decided to skip last season to prepare for the new one.

Among those who courted Ray Allen was Cleveland Cavaliers and Lebron James who he won the 2013 NBA championship with when they were playing for Miami Heat.

The Cavs lost to Golden State Warriors in the 2015 NBA finals. Watching these two teams made Allen miss the game and thought, he 'should have been there.

"I didn't miss it," Allen said in the interview. "I realized how much time I missed not being home with my kids. I probably missed it in the Finals. Watching Cleveland and Golden State play, it just seemed like an epic battle that required a lot of precision on the floor and that's when I felt, that was probably the only time that I felt like, 'Man, I should have been out there.'"
