Android Pay Lets You Buy Stuff With Your Smartphone; Google Wallet To Manage Your Bank Account

Up until recently, Google Wallet was the go-to payment solution for Android users. But now, Android Pay is out and essentially took some of its functions. So what's the difference between the two and which one's for which?

The old Google Wallet app used to be "some kind of hybrid payment system" that nobody really used, according to Gizmodo.

"The newly revamped Wallet - now available on iOS - is meant to do just one thing: send money to other people with minimal hassle."

From there, users can add their debit card or bank account and sent or receive money to or from anyone in the US with an email address.

"When you receive the money, you can quickly cash out to your bank account using your debit card, or spend it instantly with the Google Wallet Card," according to the app's website.

Both Android and iOS users can access and manage the Card and account on the Wallet website.

Android users who already have Google Wallet may find the Android Pay app in its place if their automatic updates are enabled. This new app essentially turns a smartphone into a mobile payment system.

Per Engadget, Android Pay is available on Google Play. It requires an NFC-equipped smartphone running Android 4.4 or higher. As with Wallet, a credit or debit card must be added to enable tap-to-pay.

"When you're ready to pay, simply unlock your phone, hold it near a contactless terminal, and you're good to go," the app's description reads.

Unfortunately, iOS users will have to turn to the iPhone's own Apple Pay for the said feature.

As for Google Wallet or Android Pay fees, "it costs nothing to transfer money from bank account to balance, but there is a 2.0 percent flat fee when users want to add money from their debit or credit card," Tech Times said.

So to sum up, Google Wallet is used for money transfers and managing your account. Android Pay allows mobile payments via your Android smartphone.
