Patrick Dempsey Doesn’t Need ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ - Rubs It In Ellen Pompeo's Face As He Lands 'Bridget Jones' Role?

Is Patrick Dempsey sending a message to his former "Grey's Anatomy" co-star, Ellen Pompeo?

Dempsey, who was rumored to have been fired from the show by series creator Shonda Rhimes due to his alleged primadonna attitude on set as well as his infidelity over his wife, is now moving on to a bigger project.

Previous reports claim that Patrick Dempsey's bad reputation on the "Grey's Anatomy" set started when his on-screen wife, Ellen Pompeo had revealed the actor's illicit affairs to his real-life wife, Jillian Fink, leading to their divorce.

Now, however, Dempsey has landed the biggest role he's ever had since leaving "Grey's Anatomy."

Dempsey joins Renee Zellwegger and Colin Firth in the sequel to the first two "Bridget Jones" movie, which is entitled "Bridget Jones' Baby."

Recently, Patrick Dempsey expressed how happy he was to be working on the film set, which some websites interpret as his way of rubbing his post-"Grey's Anatomy" success to Ellen Pompeo's face.

"Nice to be working in England," the actor wrote on his Facebook page. "Renee and Colin are an absolute joy to work with! A good couple of days rehearsing at Pinewood Studios. I really like it here!"

Previously, Dempsey has expressed concern over whether or not he could break away from his role as "McDreamy" in the medical drama series.

"Will I be allowed to do something different?" the actor said. "Is Derek so identifiable that I can't go on and be someone else? That will be the challenge. To see if people embrace me as someone else."

On the other hand, Patrick Dempsey's co-star Ellen Pompeo recently opened up on why "Grey's Anatomy" doesn't need their staple character, "McDreamy."

"Let's keep it really real for a second and say this is really difficult for my ego. It's like, Annalise Keating ('How To Get Away With Murder') carries the show, Olivia Pope ('Scandal') carries the show," the actress said. "But somehow, Meredith Grey needs someone. Why can't I just be the lead of the show the way Annalise and Olivia can? Why can't I be on that poster by myself?"
