The famous Japanese manga "Death Note" is getting an American movie adaptation and it already signed on an up and coming actor for the lead role!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Paper Towns" star Nat Wolff has signed on to play a key character in the Warner Brothers-produced film. According to ComingSoon.net, he will be playing the American version of Light Yagami

The 13-volume series follows a high school student whose life is changed after picking up a notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written on it.

"Light Yagami is a genius high school student who is about to learn about life through a book of death," Amazon described the famous Japanese manga. "When a bored shinigami, a God of Death, named Ryuk drops a black notepad called a Death Note, Light receives power over life and death with the stroke of a pen."

"Determined to use this dark gift for the best, Light sets out to rid the world of evil... namely the people he believes to be evil."

Despite his good intention, he finds himself being tracked down by the police as well as a mysterious person who only introduces himself as "L."

"Should anyone hold such power?" the synopsis continued. "The consequences of Light's actions will set the world ablaze."

Prior to the upcoming "Death Note" American adaptation, the series was already turned into an anime, a film and most recently, a drama series.

The Hollywood Reporter further reported that the upcoming American version was produced by Masi Oka (who is currently starring in Tim Kring's NBC series "Heroes Reborn") along with Roy Lee, Dan Lin, and Jason Hoffs.

With Adam Wingard ("The Guest" and "You're Next") at the helm, the screenplay for the "Death Note" American adaptation will be written by Jeremy Slater ("Fantastic Four"). Brian Witten and Doug Davison are executive producers.
