Sonic Menu: Company Brings Out Spice With New Selections

Oct 31, 2013 04:55 PM EDT | By Justin Stock

Sonic Drive-in introduced some new menu items that are full of spice Sonic the company said in a press release on its website Wednesday.

"With these new spicy menu items we really want our customers to experience the addictive thrill of spice," Chef Claes Petersson, vice president of product innovation at Sonic said in a statement. "We've created the perfect combination of spice and flavor that will have our customer's taste buds tingling as each bite brings a flavorful thrill."

The new additions include a classic spicy chicken sandwich which has chicken with a spicy cayenne pepper blend, lettuce, cut tomato, and mayo  under a ciabatta bun the release reported.

The island fire spicy chicken sandwich has a sweet and spicy habanero sauce with a spicy chicken breast filet to give the food item an improved taste.

There is also the island fire supersonic cheeseburger. This has beef patties with smokey cheddar and pepper jack cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, and habanero sauce in a heated bakery bun.

Sonic's southwest chipotle breakfast burrito has a smoked chipotle sauce, and red and green peppers cooked under a fire.

The items are available the entire day for a short time. Customers can buy them combined with others items like tater tots, and a Route 44 Green Iced Tea.

Sonic's news is the latest development in a business focusing more on food with a kick.

"It seems to be the way the world is going," Chris Martone Subway executive chef Chris Martone told Nation's Restaurant News in June.

According to a study from Technomic, a research firm that compiles data about the restaurant business, 48 percent of people surveyed liked food that was hot or spicy.

More than 55 percent of the individuals, ages 25 to 44, indicated they liked heat levels a seven or more out of 10, on a scale from one to 10.
