Neymar To Leave Barcelona Due To Ongoing Tax Issues? Manchester United On Alert

Nov 18, 2015 09:10 PM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

Barcelona are currently on top of La Liga standings but there is another immediate problem they need to solve - Neymar's tax issues.

Reports from Brazil claim the Brazilian forward's father will not allow his son to sign a contract extension unless the Catalan club irons out Neymar's tax issues.

The 22-year old football superstar allegedly underwent illegal deals to be able to transfer from Santos to Barcelona in 2013.

Neymar Sr. said the ongoing controversy is hurting his family as it already tarnished their reputation and be subjected to attacks from the public.

"We are talking about renewing but there are things outstanding still to resolve, which have us a bit worried," he said as per report by ESPN citing Brazilian radio station Cadena Ser as the source.

"There cannot be these tax concerns from not knowing if we are doing things correctly. We must know if Spain accepts our situation. It is hard for us because we are receiving many attacks, from Brazil and from Spain, in tax matters."

With Neymar's tax issues, several rich European clubs are already on stand by. One of those is Manchester United who already tried to pay for the Brazilian player's £175million buy out clause last summer. Neymar Sr. said transferring to English Premiere League is not out of equation because of his son's current situation.

Although bothered by the issue, Neymar Sr. insists they want to stay in Spain and Barcelona and he just wants a peaceful community for his family.

"Since we arrived to Spain we have been under attack and it has extended to Brazil. For the last two-and-a-half years, we have had to defend ourselves from accusations," he said.

"We will respect Neymar's contract with Barca but regarding the contract extension, we need a deal that gives us peace of mind for Neymar, my companies and my family."

"I don't want to use the word persecution, but if the working environment here is not good, we won't be able to remain in Spain and will have to leave the country."
