Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor's kiss caused a huge stir with the viewers of the recently concluded American Music Awards.

Despite looking like they enjoyed the steamy make-out, the Youtube sensation revealed to Complex Magazine that it actually wasn't in the original plan.

Puth shared that he was hesitant to pursue the kiss at first, fearing that the media would focus on it instead of the performance.

I wanted it to be a quick thing, but [the show's producers] kept yelling in my ear 'Keep going! Keep going!' And I wasn't going to back off... I didn't want it to look awkward," he said. "Maybe in theory I should have done that."

Despite his reported apprehension, he did manage to sell it quite well, even palming the "All About That Bass" singer's backside in the midst of it all.

He did admit to the JohnJay & Rich Show that he was an "aggressive maker-outer" and his "natural boy instincts kinda just like kicked in."

"It was mostly lip action, but I didn't want to get too crazy," he said.

The liplock did create a sensation that it triggered Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor to clear their relationship up right away.

"Before it begins...we are just friends. so happy to preform with meghan tonight!! thank you for all the love everybody! :)" he promptly announced on Twitter after the performance.

Nevertheless, he reportedly confessed that he was "irked" at the producers for making them prolong the kiss. The quick post on Twitter was also because he was scared that people might see him with other girls in the next few weeks and accuse him of cheating on Trainor, whom he called a "friend."

Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor's steamy kiss aside, he's actually dating someone else.

"I have a girl kind of in my life right now that I'm not making too public and I don't want people to get the wrong idea," he previously revealed to USA Today.
