‘Gravity Falls’ Finale: Obsessed Fans Caused Animated Show’s End?

"Gravity Falls," Disney XD's most-watched show, is facing its finale at the same time the second season is ending with an hour-long episode sometime in January to March next year.

The early demise for the cult-favorite animated series, although already hounded with rumors about its end, was announced officially by its creator, Alex Hirsch, who broke out the news on Twitter, saying: "Hey guys. 'Gravity Falls' has been an amazing journey, but the rumors are true-it's reaching its finale."

On his blog called The Mystery Shack, Alex Hirsch wrote, "Goodbye Gravity Falls," where he confirmed will be ending after "Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality" and "Weirdmageddon III."

Alex Hirsch made it clear that the "Gravity Falls" finale was a personal decision he had to make, saying, "The first thing to know is that the show isn't being cancelled-it's being finished. This is 100% my choice, and it's something I decided on a very long time ago."

Christian Post, in its report, pointed out that Hirsch's statement on his blog post about having decided about "Gravity Falls" finale "a long time ago" does not corroborate with Hirsch's statement in a 2013 Nerdist Writers Panel podcast where he suggested that the animated series will have a three-season run.

Furthermore, Wired speculated that the show's obsessive fans may have contributed to the show's early finale.

"There's a theory (on Reddit, of course) that fans' obsessive deconstruction gave them too much insight about the show's ultimate twist, so Hirsch himself decided to cut short what was originally meant to be a longer series," Wired wrote.

According to the Reddit user, the mysterious nature of "Gravity Falls" have made fans so advanced with their theories that "they have long predicted" parts of the series. "So painful as this is to say, I think we cost ourselves the third season," the Reddit user said.

Another theory it highlighted is that the show's biggest stumbling block was its scheduling. Episodes, especially for Season 2, have been spaced out at random. This type of scheduling may have demanded much on Alex Hirsch and consequently, the demanding production cycle had taken its toll on Hirsch and prompted him to end the show.
