"You're the Worst" season 2 episodes aren't doing great in ratings but who cares if it is being lauded by critics?
Definitely not its mother network FXX as the company just inked a new season deal for the comedy series.
The cable network announced "You're the Worst" season 3 is happening. Aside from that, series creator Stephen Falk landed a major role in development of other projects in the network.
"Stephen is one of the best new talents in comedy - as funny, thoughtful and original as You're the Worst and we can't wait to see what he comes up with next," said Nick Grad, head of original programming for FX Networks., in a statement.
"You're the Worst, already one of the most critically-acclaimed comedies on television, is also one of the most innovative, something Stephen and the cast will continue in the much-deserved third season. The daring turn this season, led by the honest and respectful portrayal of Gretchen's depression, was a very courageous move for a comedy and another milestone for You're the Worst."
"You're the Worst" season 2 has been getting good reviews episode per episode. Review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes gave the sophomore run of the show starring Aya Cash and Chris Geere a 95% rating. The critics consensus raves about its "expertly balancing character growth against edgy humor", concluding that "season two of You're the Worst elevates the show's excellent writing and talented cast to a new level."
Cast members are also lauded for portrayal of their roles. Aya Cash, whose character Gretchen is undergoing depression, is praised for her performances. With the dramatic shift in theme of "You're the Worst" season 2 episodes, Cash was nervous with how people will react.
"It's challenging and scary, but I want to do things that freak you out," says Cash in an interview with Mercury News. "I was definitely anxious when (the writers) started in on this arc. I wondered: Did we pull it off? Are people going to hate us?"
So far, 12 "You're the Worst" season 2 episodes have been aired. It will air its season finale on December 9.
