Why Did Manny Pacquiao Delay Announcement Of Foe's Name For Next Fight?

Dec 12, 2015 08:53 PM EST | By Rolly Gacelo

Details of Manny Pacquiao's next fight, the name of the foe to be specific, is supposed to be announced this week.

However, nothing was released from his camp.

Turned out, the eight-division world champ is yet to finalize his selection of an opponent.

"I was asked to tell you on Bob's behalf that, unfortunately, Top Rank will not have an announcement on truTV as originally planned as Manny is not ready to make a decision on his opponent yet," said Fred Sternburg, spokesman to Top Rank CEO and Pacman's promoter Bob Arum, as reported by ESPN.

Arum previously told reporters that the foe for Manny Pacquiao's next fight will be revealed Friday.

"He's absolutely positive we'll have an answer by Friday," Arum said when asked for update on Pacquiao's next fight during interview with ESPN's Dan Rafael on Dec. 3.

"Would I prefer it not to be Khan? Yes, but this is Manny's last fight. I have a duty to him to present him all of the options."

Among the boxers Pacquiao is considering is Terrence Crawford who his business manager says is the frontrunner.

"Manny likes to fight Crawford because he wants the best fight before he retires. He doesn't back down from any fight," Eric Pineda, the fighter's longtime business manager told local publication Manila Times.

Pineda also threw jabs at Pacquiao's latest tormentor and now retired Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"He is not (Floyd) Mayweather who likes to choose easy opponents. Manny doesn't fight patsy rivals."

British fighter Amir Khan also used to be in the list but he said he already stopped chasing Pacquiao and will fight Kell Brook instead.

Timothy Bradley, who Pacquiao already fought twice and got split result, is also being considered to be his next foe.

Manny Pacquiao's next fight is set on April next year and it advertised as his last according to Bob Arum. The Top Rank CEO says Manny told him about his plan to retire owing to his dream of becoming a senator in the Philippines.
