It's what we've all been waiting for--or at least those who are Samsung fans. The Galaxy S5 may make its first official debut at a technology event on Feb. 24. The new smartphone will hopefully help bolster the relatively slow sales of the Galaxy S4 smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is set to appear at the launch of "Samsung Unpacked" at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, according to The Mirror. Expected to have a bigger screen and come in two versions--one with metal and one with plastic casing--the new smartphone has been on everyone's minds since the Galaxy S4 launched. Other rumors of what the new phone will have include a fingerprint scanner and possibly even iris recognition. In fact, a recent leak from @evleaks revealed some surprising new photos of the possible features.

The Mobile World Congress is actually a great opportunity to launch a new phone, according to PC World. The whole industry is gathered there, and Samsung would have the attention of everyone. In addition, reports that Apple is actually announcing the iPhone 6 in June has possibly made Samsung speed up its Galaxy debut.

That said, Samsung has not yet officially confirmed what they'll reveal at this event, according to USA Today. All signs, though, seem to point to the Galaxy S5. Last year, Samsung revealed the Galaxy S4 at the same event, and a similar Unpacked event in the fall marked the debuts of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch and the Galaxy Note 3.

Samsung has actually had slower sales than expected. This is possibly due to the strong competition from Apple, which has been to sell iPhones in China through China Mobile, according to The Mirror. Because of the iPhone's popularity, it's difficult for Samsung to keep up. Yet this possible announcement at their event could potentially help put them back in the race.
