Amazon Forgoes Plans For Czech Republic Logistics Center

Amazons logistics center in Brno, Czech Republic will no longer come to fruition after Czech Republic authorities turned down the online retailer's strategy for one Reuters reported Wednesday.

According to The Washington Post, the company's efforts to put one in Czech's capital city Prague are reportedly still intact as the online retailer strives to construct the last of its five fulfillment centers in Czech Republic into 2015.

According to Fox Business, Amazon is also aiming for three in Poland, all properties of which are expected to occupy 95,000 square meters or soccer fields in Europe.

All initiatives are part of the online retailer's efforts to cater to a customer base in Germany, Austria, and southeastern Europe.

"We respect the decision of the Brno authorities... We are not pursuing the project at this time," Anette Nachbar, a spokeswoman for Amazon told Reuters.

Amazon's former plans at were to have opened up 2,000 employment opportunities at the center which currently sits130 kilometers or 83 miles to Austria's capital Vienna. This also 100 kilometers to the west of Slovakia's Bratislava Fox Business reported.

"We're exploring possibilities for another location in the (Central European) region,"   Tim Collins director of emerging markets at Amazon told Fox Business.

Amazon has a presence all over the world, and has expanded since February.

Amazon announced Feb. 12 that it was adding 2,500 new full-time employees to assist the company at its various distribution facilities across the United States.

Opportunities were available in Chester, Va., Petersburg, Va. Coffeyville, Kan, Columbia, S.C., Dupont, Wash, and Murfreesboro, Tenn.,

Over 20,000 individuals were employed at Amazon fulfillment centers in 2013, with over 50 percent beginning as seasonal employees USA Today reported.

One hundred seventeen thousand, three hundred full-time and part-time employees worked for the online retailer last year as well. Employees at the centers make more than workers at regular retailers USA Today reported.
