Fourteen years since the release of the first "X-Men" movie, creators confirm two more installments to be released. Audiences around the world continue to wait and watch for the next mutant fantasy adventure movie.

Following the most recent X-Men film titled "X-Men: Days of Future Past", creators of X-Men have since been working on the next installment, "X-Men: Apocalypse".

"X-Men: Apocalypse" 2016 release date has not been confirmed until recently.

Based on the X-Men comics by Marvel, Apocalypse is one of the major villains in the mutant world. Born with superhuman powers, he further developed his abilities by including technology in his persona. Basically, he can transform into anything, adapt to fatal attacks and absorb energy. Oh, and he also has telekinesis and telepathy.

With Magneto focused as the main villain for the previous installments, the X-Men are now facing an ancient mutant hailed from Egypt, regarded as the "first mutant" in existence.

According to reports, "X-Men: Apocalypse" plot remains unclear save for the fact that Apocalypse will attempt to destroy anything that stands on this path. Which X-Men characters will return in the installment to defend humankind is another unanswered question.

Reports that majority of the younger version of X-Men characters in the likes of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Professor X (James McAvoy), and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) are appearing in "X-Men: Apocalypse". Rumored Gambit character to be played by Channing Tatum, and Apocalypse by newcomer Brendan Pedder.

Director Bryan Singer, who also directed the first and second sequel has returned for "X-Men: Apocalypse". Although early on the production seemed to be out of his grasp due to other legal issues, he has been officially named to direct.

While the entire "X-Men" franchise paved the way for other superhero movies that seem to be the trend nowadays, creating another "X-Men" installment seems to be a more challenging feat.

With the success (box office performance and reception-wise) of the last sequel, "X-Men: Days of Future Past", fans could only imagine what's in store for the coming "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Official 'X-Men: Apocalypse' 2016 release date is set for May 27.
