Smartwatch On The Rise: LG, Samsung And Apple Merge Time-Telling And Communication Devices

Tech and time come to play as top gadget manufacturers LG, Samsung and Apple come out with respective versions of smartwatches for the tech-savvy market.

Staying in touch with an ordinary wristwatch's style, LG's new G Watch R is anything but ordinary. The smartwatch reportedly runs on Google's Android Wear operating system,comes with a high resolution and uses plastic OLED display technology, making it easier to read in direct sunlight. For the health conscious, this smartwatch also comes with a heart rate monitor, perfect for the exercise buffs.

Meanwhile, Samsung continually improves its Samsung Gear brand by releasing the Samsung Gear S. The new smartwatch from the Korean manufacturer sports a 3G technology, which enables the owner to get notifications and messages and even receive phone calls without the actual smartphone.

Aside from these features, the Samsung Gear S also comes with a Super AMOLED display and a curved screen which fits the user's wrist.

This little gadget packs a punch with its GPS sensor, accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, UV detection, barometer and a heart rate monitor. It can also store up to 4GB of internal memory and 512MB RAM, and a dual-core 1.0 GHz processor. The Samsung Gear S is also dust and water-resistant. The Samsung Gear S is scheduled to be available in October.

Not to be left out, Apple will release a smartwatch of its own: the iWatch. According to reports from Recode, this new smartwatch will be very exciting for the ultimate health buffs. Although details about this smartwatch is yet to be disclosed to the press, rumors have been circulating that Apple's iWatch will bank on the company's HealthKit platform, described as "a centralized location for fitness and health tracking" which can include "everything from a heart-rate monitor to a sensor that monitors your exposure to UV rays."
