Lane, were held in a protective control unit. Security issues have been mentioned as it was revealed that prison officials have apparently foiled and attempted escape plan.

All three escaped prisoners were captured last Friday morning and were transferred later that day to another prison in northeastern Ohio which was highly secured. The tree inmates were formerly at Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution which was a minimum and medium security prison.

For inmates who needed to be in a higher security area like Lane, they were put under a protective control unit. Some reports stated that the union have complained about inadequate number of staff a few years back.

The escaped inmates apparently scaled a fence to the roof which sounded the alarm. The first inmate was captured immediately after he was chased by a prison guard. The second inmate was caught hours afte by state troopers at around 100 yards from the prison. The last one was caught three hours after the second one after officers spotted him with an infrared camera.

Reports of the escape triggered residents of Chardon to panic. This community is located around 200 miles from the prison and had a history with one of the inmates who escaped. Two years ago, T.J. Lane shot and killed three students and wounded a couple more. His obscene response to what he did in his trial spurred a massive outrage from people. While on the courtroom, he revealed the T-shirt he wore when he did the killings which had the word "killer" written on it. Lane was given a three consecutive life sentence afterwards.

Reports said that the state prison may hire experts to review any loopholes and look for improvements to the system.
