Angelina Jolie latest news suggests that the Hollywood actress has been a source of inspiration among women to fight a life-threatening disease named breast cancer.

The study called "Angelina effect" published in the scientific journal "Breast Cancer Research" recognized Jolie's announcement of her mastectomy in May last year as a factor that women in Britain have sought genetic cancer tests, according to Fox News.

The study also said Mrs. Smith's glamorous appearance and her relationship with Brad Pitt have been a help to lessen the fears of women on surgery.

In May last year, 33-year-old Jolie said she decided to have preventive double mastectomy because she carries "faulty"  BRCA1 gene which quickly raises her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. She said she hopes "that other women can benefit from [her] experience."

This Angelina Jolie latest news said that according to the study released on Friday, there were 4,847 referrals for breast cancer testing in June to July in 2013 compared to 1,981 in the same period of 2012.

In a statement by researcher Gareth Evans of the charity Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention, he said "Angelina Jolie ... is likely to have had a bigger impact than other celebrity announcements, possibly due to her image as glamorous and strong woman.

"This may have lessened patients' fears about a loss of sexual identity post-preventative surgery and encouraged those who had not previously engaged with health services to consider genetic testing."

Based on the study of World Health Organization, an estimated 521,000 women died of breast cancer in 2012 worldwide, making it the most common cancer in woman. Breast cancer "is increasing particularly in developing countries where the majority of cases are diagnosed in late stages".

The "Tomb Raider" actress is also involved in humanitarian works. "Maleficent" star Jolie was appointed in April 2012 as Special Envoy of UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres. She was also named a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR in 2001 and since then has helped publicize the situation of the refugees and lobby for international assistance for them.
