This medication is an antibiotic medicine that's primarily used for the treatment or prevention of uncomplicated lower urinary tract infection or UTI. Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic that, for the most part, functions by terminating the growth or buildup of bacteria.

For that reason, Nitrofurantoin won't work for viral infections, for example, flu and the common cold. Keep in mind that overuse or unnecessary use of any antibiotic medication can, more often than not, lead to its curtailed effectiveness.

Furthermore, this medication must not be used or consumed by youngsters at least a month old because of the danger or hazard of a particular blood issue called hemolytic anemia. For a little help, we will walk you through the uses, side effects, warnings, and dosings of this medication. Read on!

Before you take this medication, there are a couple of warnings that you should keep in mind. Don't take Nitrofurantoin if you're in the last month of pregnancy. You must not take this medication if you're allergic or hypersensitive to it, or if you have a history of liver problems or jaundice because of taking Nitrofurantoin.

Moreover, you must not take it if you have critical kidney disease, as well as if you're less than usual taking a leak. To ensure that this medication is, for the most part, out of harm's way, you must inform your doctor if you have any form of crippling disease, G6PD (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase) deficiency, vitamin B deficiency, an electrolyte imbalance, diabetes, anemia, and kidney disease.

How Should You Use This Medication?

Well, basically, you need to comply with all the directions on medicine or drug label. Don't take Nitrofurantoin in smaller amounts or larger amounts, or for a more extended time than suggested. Also, be sure to take this medication with food.

Shake the liquid excellently before you gauge a dose. Calculate liquid medication with the use of a dosing syringe, medicine cup, or measuring spoon. If you don't have a measuring device, you can ask your doctor for one.

Furthermore, you can, without a doubt, mix Nitrofurantoin with fruit juice, milk, or water to make it uncomplicated and trouble-free to swallow. Be sure to drink or consume the whole mixture immediately.

Use Nitrofurantoin for the entire recommended period. Your signs might become better before even the infection is, for the most part, entirely cleared. Omitting doses might increase or grow your risk of further infection that's impervious to antibiotics.

Again, this medication won't cure a viral infection, for instance, the flu or the common cold. Moreover, Nitrofurantoin is frequently taken at least seven days. So, if you take this medication long-term, you might need to have regular medical tests.

Finally, Nitrofurantoin can, believe it or not, cause uncommon or abnormal results with particular laboratory tests for sugar or glucose in the urine. Thus, it is a great idea to inform your doctor that you're using this medication. Make sure to store Nitrofurantoin at a room temp away from light, heat, and moisture.
