The news of the Thailand beach murders have definitely put a dent on the country's tourism economy. Two weeks ago, two British backpackers, a male and a female, were killed at the island of Koh Tao. The victims were identified as David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23. Miller died of blow to the head and drowning while Witheridge died because of head wounds. This incident has put the country in a bad light and in an effort to assure tourists that they are safe in the country, the authorities are now planning to tag their visitors electronically.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said that she and managers and owners of hotels and resorts have already discussed the possibility of ordering tourists to wear a band or electronic devices that will make it easier for authorities to track them.

"When tourists check-in to a hotel they will be given a wristband with a serial number that matches their I.D. and shows the contact details of the resort they are staying in so that if they're out partying late and, for example, get drunk or lost, they can be easily assisted.

"The next step would be some sort of electronic tracking device but this has not yet been discussed in detail."

Also being considered in response to Thailand beach murders is assigning a local minder to tourists, something they call 'buddy system.'

While the tourism department already has plans to salvage their stained reputation because of the Thailand beach murders, police forces are yet to come close to the identification of the suspect/s.

A £13,300 reward is now in order for the capture or information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Thai police are now looking into several persons of interest including "more than eight" footballers - who reportedly had a late-night party at the nightclub where the victims were last seen.
