Frontier Airlines Flies to Philadelphia, Miami and O’Hare

Frontier Airlines announced several new routes including Miami, Philadelphia and Chicago O'Hare.

After Denver's hometown airline got an overhaul with new owners, new management team and a new logo, Frontier Airlines announced on Tues. plans to develop routes from Philadelphia International Airport to several destinations including Miami, Orlando and Tampa, Fla. And Cancun, Mexico in Dec. and Atlanta, Charlotte, N.C. and Chicago next spring.

Frontier Airlines is diving into enemy waters as Miami, Philadelphia and O'Hare are home of American Airlines and partner airline US Airways.

Frontier Airlines spokesman Todd Lehmacher stated that the airline means no competition and aims to grow on its own in those cities.

"It's really about identifying particular city pairs - not one particular competitor - where we feel there is an opportunity to introduce lower fares mixed with Frontier's unique brand of service that allows more travelers to take to the skies," stated Lehmacher in an interview with Today in the Sky.

"These are underserved markets with very high fares," Frontier chief executive officer David Siegel said. "We're going to expand the market, stimulating it with low fares and dropping in a little bit of capacity."

Frontier's expansion to Miami is one strategic move, according to USA Today.

The airline will be the sole U.S. low-cost carrier to South Fla.  Other low-cost airlines like Southwest, Spirit, JetBlue and Virgin America all have routes towards Fort Lauderdate.

Miami International Airport warmly welcomes Frontier Airlines and excited to offer its clients low-fare options to leading U.S. destinations, according to Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio Gonzalez.

Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines' return to Philadelphia sparks questions on the airline's motives for its operations in nearby Trenton, N.J. and Wilmington, Del.

N.J. has proved to be one of the airline's active cities and currently houses 18 nonstop routes, while Dela. has experienced slow operations in recent months, left with two year-round routes and a few seasonal routes.
