Gotham TV Series Spoiler: Erin Richards On Her Barbara Kean Character Becoming Batwoman And The Overall Future Of Her Character

Oct 01, 2014 06:19 AM EDT | By Staff Reporter

Erin Richards sat down with the Hollywood Reporter and there she talked about her character while also trying to prevent unnecessary Gotham TV series spoiler. The 28-year old Welsh actress is playing Barbara Kean, the partner of Ben McKenzie's Jim Gordon. In the comics, Barbara and Jim will produce a daughter who will turn out to be the Batgirl. However, in this interview with THR, it seems that the interviewer asked a rather intriguing question at the end part, that she might become the Batwoman. Erin Richards has a puzzling answer, too.

THR asked: I think she's going to end up becoming Batwoman at some point.

"(Laughs.) I honestly don't know! We only get the scripts a week before we shoot. I have a vague idea of where things are going, but I have no idea [about that]. You'll have to watch and see! (Laughs.)"

On a serious note, Richard said that Barbara Kean will be huge as the show progresses. She also lauds the staff for her strong-willed character. Gotham TV Series Spoiler alert! In the first two episodes, Ms. Kean is pushing Gordon to finish the Wayne couple murder case.

"We discussed a lot about Barbara and who she is. I think she's got a lot of different sides to her. There is her proactive side; she's completely in love with Jim Gordon; she's completely intelligent and a strong, bold, committed individual. When things come up that she really wants to fight for, that she really believes in, she'll go hell-for-leather to get them and to steer Jim on the right path.

"In our series, Bruno has written some fantastic female characters who are so driven and strong, with so many different layers. They're not just the wife, or the boss, or whatever. They have multiple things going on in their lives that make them more real. It's so fascinating to watch that, and I think women and men like to watch characters with depth and history. It's liberating to have female characters like that. In the past, female characters didn't really have that depth of character. It's an exciting project for me to work on, for that reason."
