The chairman and CEO of Applebee's franchisee Apple American Group has acquired Southern Bells Inc., a franchise group of 76 restaurants - mostly Taco Bell but also some KFC and Pizza Hut units - in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky, according to a statement.
The Franchise Business Index (FBI), an index of the economic health of the franchise sector, showed a slight gain of 0.3 percent in October, the International Franchise Association announced today. The index increased to 109.0 (Jan 2000=100). This is a 2.1 percent increase compared with October 2011.

Hertz Global Holdings, Inc. today announced that, in connection with its previously announced cash tender offer to purchase all outstanding shares of common stock of Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group, Inc. for $87.50 per share, Hertz has agreed to extend the term of its timing agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) until 11:59 p.m. on November 16, 2012.

McDonald's Board of Directors declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.77 per share of common stock payable on December 17, 2012, to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 3, 2012. This represents a 10% increase over the Company's previous quarterly dividend and brings the fourth quarter dividend payout to approximately $770 million.
