Blue Bell Announces Ice Cream Return in Select Markets Following Listeria Outbreak

Aug 19, 2015 11:19 PM EDT | By Jean-Claude Arnobit

Blue Bell Creameries have announced that it will begin distributing ice cream to select market starting on August 31, 2015, according to a press release by Blue Bell.

The announcement marks the return of the company's ice cream in stores, following the recall caused by a Listeria contamination.

The Christian Science Monitor added that Blue Bell voluntarily recalled all its products last April after its treats were linked to 10 cases of Listeria illnesses in four states.

The 10 cases included three deaths in Kansas.

Ricky Dickson, vice president of sales and marketing at Blue Bell, said in the press release that the company has been working to improve its facilities and make sure they are safe.

"Over the past several months we have been working to make our facilities even better and to ensure that everything we produce is safe, wholesome and of the highest quality for you to enjoy," he said. "This is an exciting time for us as we are back to doing what we love...making ice cream!"

Blue Bell has resumed production of ice cream in its facility in Sylacauga, Alabama in late July, according to the press release.

Its other facilities in Brenham, Texas and Broker Arrow, Oklahoma are still undergoing upgrades that will be similar to its facility in Alabama.

In addition, the company will be distributing its ice cream in parts of 15 states in five phases, as mentioned in the report.

This is due to the limited production capacity of using one facility.

As part of the first phase, Blue Bell will be distributing its ice cream to the Brenham, Houston, and Austin, Texas area, as well as in Birmingham and Montgomery, both in Alabama, according to the report.

A complete list of the areas that will cover the five phases can be found in the press release.

Blue Bell also said in the press release that they will be moving to each phase depending on the availability of the product and the company's capacity to service customers in an area properly.
