A group of German premium car makers has agreed to purchase Nokia HERE, two people familiar with the matter told Reuters. The deal is expected to extend the reach of digital services that the group of German car makers offer for connected cars.
Tech giant Apple may be gearing up for an entry into the auto industry, with a Reuters reporting that CEO Tim Cook had visited the headquarters and a factory of BMW to learn more about the business.
BMW announced Tuesday that it has increased production of its i3 electric city car by 43 percent to meet increasing demand. Harald Krueger, production chief for BMW, said the automaker raised daily output from 70 vehicles to 100.
BMW will recall over 156,000 vehicles that feature 6-cylinder engines in the U.S. due to a defect that could cause engine damage or stalling. The automaker said it would check if the bolts holding a certain component in the vehicles were likely to loosen or brake.
BMW is recalling 489,000 total vehicles for a brake defect.
