'What A Girl Wants' Star Amanda Bynes Parents Deny They Are Working With Sam Lufti

Oct 24, 2014 10:52 PM EDT | By Josh Samuel

Weeks after troubled star Amanda Bynes got into a 5150 order psychiatric hold at the Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena California, many were wondering what's next for the What a Girl Wants star.

A source told PEOPLE that Bynes' parents were relieved and "happy she's safe and that Amanda is finally getting some help." And when they were asked about the assistance they got from Britney Spears' ex-manager Sam Lufti,  Bynes' mother denied they were collaborating with Lufti. "Don't worry, we're not working with Sam," she remarked. Her only answer was "she's fine" when asked about her daughter.

Meanwhile, Sam Lufti tried to defend himself in an open letter published on XOJane.com last weekend. "All I can tell you is that Amanda is getting the help that she needs and that I am working closely with her and her family in order to ensure that we can move on from the tabloid sensationalism of her "breakdown" and instead concentrate on what a rare, talented young woman she has always been and continues to be," the controversial manager wrote.

Dubbed as the "hollywood Svengali," Lufti was aware of the word spreading that he wasn't really the one responsible for Bynes' trip to Los Angeles which eventually led to her 5150 hold. He addressed that concern in his open letter saying he has "no issue being slandered as long as it helps other people get better." "I am a problem solver, and I care about helping people get out of what may seem like some of their more difficult places in life. Which is why you have seen me associated with some of the more famous celebrities when they are in their most trying hours," Lufti added.

In the meantime, as Amanda is currently receiving treatment, PEOPLE reported that she could be put on psychiatric hold for a year, but the worse thing is that her parents might not be able to get the conservatorship. We will find out in the coming days what happens next to the former Nickelodeon star.
