World's top 3 smartphone maker Xiaomi recently announced that it will be "releasing a special South East Asian edition" of the Redmi Note, which is its 4G version. It will be available in Singapore and HongKong come November 18.

The previous Xiaomi Redmi Note 3G version, priced at $199, was sold out in less than a minute when it was first released in Singapore. The new 4G version will be priced at $229, which is only $30 more expensive than the original version.

According to the Chinese tech giant, the Redmi Note 4G is specially designed for the networks in South East Asian region, since the networks being used in China are different. It is also now powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.6GHz, which is "more commonly used in low-cost 4G smartphones, and now supports Android 4.4 and Xiaomi's very own MiUi interface. Also, its microSD card can now be expanded up to 64GB, unlike the previous version which can only be expanded up to 32 GB. One downside of it, however, is this version is not a dual-SIM  unlike other Xiaomi phones, so for those users who are keen on using dual-SIM card phones, they may have second thoughts on buying this new version. The device still comes with a 5.5-inch display with 1,290 x 720 screen resolution, and has a 2GB RAM with an 8GB internal storage.

According to reports, the new phablet is lighter by 10g than the original 3G version. Though it's really not quite noticeable, the fact that it now has a lighter frame might be a possible come on to some users.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is reportedly set to launch the original version of Redmi Note in India by the end of November. It is said to go head to head against Apple's iPhone 6 Plus and Samsung's Galaxy Note 4, which have a,ready hit the shelves last October.
