The first episode of Hannibal has already been confirmed and it will be called Antipasto. The show is slated for 13 episodes. Although there is no Hannibal Season 3 release date yet, executive producer Bryan Fuller already has a six-season plan for his show whose characters are based from the novels written by Thomas Harris. He initially said that he originally had a seven-season plan but with the Red Dragon about to be explored in Hannibal Season 3, he was forced to trim it down to six.
It is obvious that Hannibal's main man is Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen who plays the title role. However, he has some other works, too. He is dubbed as the face of Danish cinema and also side steps as a dancer and movie actor. Can you imagine other seasons of Hannibal without Mikkelsen?
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Mikkelsen was asked how much longer he can see himself doing the show. Is he up for more of the gory scenes after Hannibal season 3?
"Well I imagine to do it as long as it's worthwhile. I'm sure that Bryan will make it worthwhile. If he all of a sudden says, "That's it. I don't think there's any more in the story," then we will stop. But I trust that Bryan will keep coming up with things that make it worthwhile. He has so far, and I can't see why that should be different in the coming years," Mikkelsen said.
So, there's nothing to be worried about Fannibals. You have an assurance that Hannibal Season 3 is not the last that we will see Mikkelsen.
In another Hannibal Season 3 update, Mikkelsen talked about the new path that the show is taking, specifically introducing new Red Dragon characters like Commander Pazzi and Francis Dolarhyde.
"That's what Bryan does best: He finds characters that might not be that explicit in the books or the films and then he enlarges that. He's already done that, to a degree with Mason Verger and his sister. We saw the aftermath in the film, but now we've already seen who is Mason and we saw his transition, which I find super interesting. I'm sure he's going to do that with other characters."
