DC Suicide Squad Movie: Members And Cast Announced? Film Sets Out To Be The Greatest Supervillain Movie Of All Time!

Nov 21, 2014 08:56 PM EST | By Cindy Wallace

The DC Suicide Squad Movie has been making alot of buzz lately, with rumors about the production and casting seemingly true.

As previously reported, the movie has been announced to be released after the Batman Vs. Superman movie, and DC fans have high hopes for it, considering that the standard has definitely been raised high by Marvel.

Among the rumors that surround the release of the upcoming movie, cast members are rumored to be involving A-list actors such as Jared Leto, Tom Hardy Will Smith, and Jai Courtney from the upcoming Terminator 5. As to who these actors are rumored to play as, Leto is reportedly lined up to play Joker, but in regards to who will portray the other suicide squad members, Rick Flag, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and Lex Luthor, we have yet to get a scoop about.

As previously reported under DC Suicide Squad Movie news, Critics have been babbling about the potential that the upcoming movie has, that can make it the "Greatest Supervillain Movie of all time". Yup, that's "Supervillain", not "Superhero". They are saying that perhaps the whole "helpless man-turned-hero" formula could be faced with another formula that is completely different, and would approach the audience in a completely different manner. In fact, Screenrant even came up with five reasons as to why Suicide Squad could be a great Supervillain Movie:

  • The Underworld - Suicide Squad can be a welcome exception by switching the usual perspective to show us how villains operate within the fantastical world of comic book movies. Between the Deadpool movie being green lit at Fox; the development of a Sinister Six movie within Sony's Spider-Man franchise; and even Star Wars rumors pointing to a Boba Fett spinoff film, it's clear that villains (let's call them anti-heroes) are becoming a part of these shared universe franchise plans - and DCE/WB may beat them all to the punch.
  • The Tone - Suicide Squad could be the film that delivers the appropriately dark and adult comic book movie experience you've been waiting for.
  • The Story - Suicide Squad traditionally reads like Mission: Impossible with supervillains - and that logline alone has us interested in what this film will offer audiences.
  • The Characters - The comic book Suicide Squad team has encompassed a wide range of DC villains, but the Assault on Arkham animated feature really cracked the formula of why this collection of characters is so fun to have in one place.
  • Crossover Potential - The biggest reason we think that Suicide Squad will be a great DC Movie Universe addition is its potential to influence so many other DCMU films that come after it.
