The Voice Coach Pharrell Williams On Hot Seat For Michael Brown Shooting Comments

Nov 29, 2014 06:25 PM EST | By Josh Samuel

Multi-grammy award winner Pharrell Williams is on hot seat these days because of the comments he made following the grand jury's decision not to indict the white police officer responsible for the shooting of US teen Michael Brown in Missouri last August 9.

41-year old Williams said he was "troubled" a decision such as that was made by the grand jury. Furthermore, he called Brown's behavior  "bully-ish" which led to his death that fateful day, when he got caught on CCTV stealing cigarettes at a convenience store and at the same time "intimidating" the store's owner.  "It looked very bully-ish; that in itself I had a problem with,"Pharrell said in an interview with Ebony magazine. "Not with the kid, but with whatever happened in his life for him to arrive at a place where that behavior is OK. Why aren't we talking about that?" Williams added, "The boy was walking in the middle of the street when the police supposedly told him to 'get the f*** on the sidewalk.' If you don't listen to that, after just having pushed a storeowner, you're asking for trouble."

The latter statement of the A-list singer/ producer was what fueled heated debates among people who read William's statement. One twitter user called out Pharrell's controversial comment saying, "Pharrell Williams saying that Michael Brown exhibited 'bully-like behavior' translated to the ultimate revocation of his black card." Another user tweeted, "Mike Brown was a bully says Pharrell Williams. So do we get a pass to shoot bullies in society? Way to go Pharrell."

If we recall, this was not the first time that the "Happy" singer's opinions pertaining to racial issues became controversial. He ignited some debates on the said issue when he mentioned in an interview with Oprah last year that "the new black doesn't blame others' races for our issues."
