Good News For Xiaomi Followers! India Lifts XIaomi Ban From 'Selling And Importing' Devices

Dec 20, 2014 10:10 PM EST | By Josh Samuel

Now this is good news for China's top smartphone maker Xiaomi. The Delhi High Court has reportedly lifted its ban to the Chinese tech giant from "selling and importing" its devices in India. Although the reprieve given is only temporary, it's still good enough for Xiaomi to somehow keep the momentum while settling the legal issues with Swedish company Ericsson.

A tweet from Press Trust of India (PTI) indicated that world's top 3 smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has been granted to sell its smartphones that are powered by Qualcomm chipsets only until January 8, 2015.

With Redmi 1S, there will not be a problem as it is being run by Qualcomm, but the newly released Redmi Note is powered by a Media Tek processor so this particular device will not be available for a while, at least in India.

However, Xiaomi is supposed to launch the 4G version of their Redmi Note by second half of December, so it is actually a good alternative to sell this variety to the Indian market, along with their top-seller Redmi 1S.

In the meantime, there has been no official confirmation from Xiaomi when they will release their flagship phone Mi4 in India, which incidentally, is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801.

Xiaomi will have to maximize the given period by Delhi High Court before the scheduled hearing on the case on February 5, 2015. The ban will resume come January 9, 2015 unless it will be extended by High court.

Meanwhile, the much anticipated Xiaomi Mi4 with FDD-LTE support is scheduled to arrive December 16 in China. The new modem is expected to work on China Unicom along with international 4G networks. However, only the 16GB color white version of the Mi4 will have the new FDD modem which is priced at $320. All other specifications remain the same for this flagship device of Xiaomi.
