Xiaomi has recently announced that it sold 61 million units in 2014. Compared to its sales of 18.7 million devices in 2013, and 7.2 million in 2012, the rising tech firm continues to rapidly grow. Currently, valued at $45 billion and now the third world's largest phone manufacturer in the world.

Behind Xiaomi's success is its mid-range phones with killer features. One of the best entry level phone that the Chinese tech firm has released is the Xiaomi Redmi 1S that has sold a great number in Xiaomi's market all over the world.

Yesterday, Xiaomi has unveiled its successor, the Redmi 2. Can it surpass Redmi 1s?

These two phones are pitted down to help you find out.

Xiaomi Redmi 1s Vs Xiaomi Redmi 2: Design And Screen

When it comes to their screen the Redmi 1s and Redmi 2 share the same screen of 4.7in LCD Capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 720 x 1280 and offers a higher pixel density of 312 ppi.

Redmi 1s's screen is protected by the AGC Dragontrail glass,while the Redmi 2's screen is Sharp manufactured.

But as GSM Arena notes that the Redmi 2 is more compact.

Under the hood, Xiaomi had a major upgrade on the Redmi 2. It has a 64-bit chipset with Snapdragon 410 chipset - quad Cortex-A53 at 1.2GHz, supported by a 1GB RAM and Adreno 306 graphics processing unit. It runs on Xiaomis MIUI 6 and shipped in Android Kitkat 4.4.4.

While the Xiaomi Redmi 1S features a of a 1.6 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 SoC, with the same 1GB of RAM and Cortex-A7 chipset. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly bean with MIUI 5 UI. It is still unclear if update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will be available on this device.

Both phones has an onboard the 8GB of internal memory and expandable up to 32Gb via a microSD.

Both phones sport an 8MP camera on its rear from OmniVision that has a 28mm wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and can shoot 1080p video. Redmi 2 has a 2MP front snapper with the ability to record video at 720p and 1.6MP on the Redmi 1s.

Price

Xiaomi Redmi 1S is currenltly priced at $159 on Flipkart and the Xiaomi Redmi 2 will be retailed in China For CNY 700 or approximately $110.
