Reports are coming in that Century 16 Theater may not have been the target for James Holmes' massacre, and that the suspect was planning to go to the New York City premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" to kill the stars on the red carpet, reported the Daily Mail on Wednesday.

Actors Christian Bale, who portrayed Batman, as well as costars Morgan Freeman, Anne Hathaway and Gary Oldman were apparently Holmes' original targets, reported the National Enquirer via an initial police investigation on the murder spree.

Police sources found that Holmes changed his premiere murder plans at the last minute because he was paranoid the cops would find his car full of weapons, noted the Daily Mail.

A source told the Daily Mail, "He wanted to kill Bale who plays Batman, along with the rest of the cast and God knows how many innocent people. In his sick fantasy he wanted to strike a blow on Gotham City which represents New York City in the movie. It was the fantasy of this deranged monster."

Another source close to the police investigation on Holmes stated, according to the Daily Mail, "Police believe the New York City premiere of The Dark Knight Rises on July 16 was the suspect's initial target. In a horrific and chilling scenario, Holmes confused reality with fantasy and intended to come to New York - to him Gotham City - to shoot up the premiere and kill the actors."
