The Xiaomi Mi5 was expected to make its first appearance at ES 2015, but new reports claim that the upcoming flagship phone is going to be unveiled on January 15.

A poster has shown up on Xiaomi's official Weibo page, pointing toward the new date, as spotted by GizmoChina, Trusted Reviews reports.

Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun said on his post: "There's no better way to start 2015 than with our newest products."

The event will take place at 2pm at Beijing National Convention Centre in China. Tickets for the event costs 99 CNY and can be purchased at Xiaomi's Mall App starting January 08.

"The poster also hints that the phone will be very thin; specifically thinner than the wings of a cicada, an insect found (and also eaten) in China," Trusted Reviews adds.

But ahead of its reported release the alleged Xiaomi Mi5 was spotted on a Chinese retailer website and listed at $599. The site also adds on its device description that the phone goes official on January 15.

According to Phones Review UK the listing reveals that the the Xiaomi Mi5 is powered by a 2.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor and Adreno 420 graphics processing unit. A 3GB of RAM supports the 16 or 64GB models of internal storage onboard. It also pulls off a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 lens and 8-megapixel on the front. A battery capacity of 3,600 mAh will backed the Xiaomi Mi5, and we can assume that it can provide long hours of phone usage.

The phablet's dimensions shown on the website are 155mm x 79mm x 8.8mm and sports a 5.7-inch display with Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 resulting in 515 ppi.

Based on the leaked specs, the phone is not as competitive as most of us were expecting, but some reports speculate that it might be the Xiaomi Mi4S, successor to the flagship killer Mi4, as the Chinese tech firm was reported to be on the works on the Mi4S too.

At this moment, we cannot verify if the leaked details are legit. We'll keep you updated about the Xiaomi Mi5's specs and features when the Chinese tech firm unveils it on January 15.
