After the recent 2014 year-end announcement by Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun of selling more than 61 million smartphones, there is no stopping the world's top 3 smartphone vendor as it recently revealed Redmi 2, its latest "entry-level" phone.

The new device has pretty much the same features as its older model, having a 4.7-inch screen and 1280x 720 display. However, it is reportedly "faster and better" as it is now powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm 410 quad-core processor and a dual 4G SIM support, as reported by Tech Crunch.

Moreover, the new Redmi 2 features an 8-megapixel rear camera and an improved 2-megapixel front camera, with 1GB RAM and an 8-GB fixed storage. It also now runs on the company's own MIUI version of Android. Another exciting thing about the new device is its provision for more color options for customers as it just added "lime green" and "powder yellow" for users who would love a flash of color in their smartphone.

The new Redmi 2 will be priced at 699 CNY, or $112 once it officially comes out on January 9. The company has not announced when it will be available outside of China, but expect that it will definitely be released in India, among other countries where Xiaomi has pretty much established its presence.

The Redmi products of Xiaomi targets the price-sensitive market, reason why their Redmi 1S became its top seller particularly in India, which is currently the world's second biggest telecommunications market. It was reported that during the first half of 2014, Xiaomi's Redmi devices alone contributed one-third of the company's total sales.

In addition to Xiaomi's announcement of several new products, the Chinese tech giant is also gearing up for expansion to countries such as Turkey, Mexico, Russia, and more cities in Southeast Asia, as confirmed by the company's CEO Lei Jun.
