Ant Man Previous Director Peyton Reed No Longer Credited Screenwriter In Film; Paul Rudd And Writer Adam McKay Acknowledged As Screenwriters

Marvel Studios recently debuted the first trailer for their upcoming film Ant Man during Agent Carter's premiere episode on ABC. With it the public got its first look at Paul Rudd playing Scott Lang the shrinking suit developed by Dr. Hank Pym played by Michael Douglas.

The movie was directed by Peyton Reed who took over the project when co-writer and director Edgar Wright (Shaun of The Dead, The World's End) dropped out of the project last year when filming was about to start.

Since Wright's departure, the movie has been shrouded in controversy with reports saying that Wright's departure from "Ant-Man" and Peyton Reed's hiring as the new director has been due to "creative differences" between the filmmaker and the studio. Paul Rudd even confirmed the reports are accurate, even if they've been "maybe overblown a little bit lately - but it was nonetheless jarring."

Rudd admits that Wright's exit from Ant Man required "a rethinking of things," on the actors part and a collaboration with writer Adam McKay, who also directed him on both of the "Anchorman" movies. McKay who has directed Rudd in both Anchorman movies initially was to take over directorial duties following Wright's departure, but ended up being a writer hired to reshape the film's story.

"The story is what it was, what Edgar and Joe Cornish, who is also a genius, wrote," "But it's now gone in some new directions. There are a lot of things involved that I'm really psyched about. It's been fun sitting down with Adam and coming up with stuff." - said Rudd from an early interview with MTV.

Since Wright's exit the script has received a revision from McKay while working closely with Rudd, meaning the two will be getting the credit for their contributions to the film bumping Wright out and his contributions in the early stages of development of the film.

Ant Man stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant Man, a master thief who must aid his mentor Dr. Hank Pym played by Michael Douglas in protecting the shrinking technology he invented which allows the user to shrink in size but at the same time increase in strength.

The smallest Avenger arrives in theaters on July 17 this year.
