Captain America: Civil War Writer Talks Plot & Black Panther; Movie Set For May 6, 2016

Captain America: Civil War will be kicking off Marvel's Phase 3 films - In the comics, Civil War's story begins when hundreds are left dead after a younger group of heroes battled their enemy. This pushed the government to create a law: The Superhero Registration Act - a law that requires all humans with superpowers to identify themselves and surrender their abilities the to government in protecting mankind. Tony Stark, already publicly known as Iron Man is in favor of this law; Captain America however, thinks that the act violates civil rights and is considered an enemy of the government and his former Avenger team mate.

As the story went on, Spiderman, Fantastic Four and heroes from other Marvel brands joined in on Civil War, either on Captain America's or Iron Man's faction.

Its a different story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with rights to titles such as Spiderman (Sony), Fantastic Four and X Men (both under Fox) still belong to other companies making it a nightmare to cross these brands due to legal reasons.

Writers of the upcoming film Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely spoke with IGN to address the situation, saying that the movie will be tailored to fit Civil War's plot:

"There's a depth of myth [to the Civil War storyline]... It's been on and off the table for a while, let's put it that way, and it's a challenge to do it and make sure that all the characters that we've established, and everyone's established in the MCU are serviced and sound correct, right? Because there's a difference between the characters in Civil War, which was written in 2006, 2007." said McFeely.

"The MCU doesn't exist [when it was written]. There isn't a Robert Downey Jr. or Chris Evans who has helped create the character so we need to make sure that that template gets adjusted and what have you in order to make sure it services these characters and not just sort of rip off their parts and make them look like them."

McFeely kept mum on Black Panther, who's debut appearance is reported to be in Civil War:

"I'll keep that one close to the vest, but I'm very gratified that they went with Chadwick and that he said yes because he's a good get."

Captain America: Civil War will release in theaters on May 6, 2016. Chris Evans will next be seen as Captain America in Avengers: Age of Ultron which releases this year on May 1.
